How to Use Location Tags

Local tags are the most reliable reach available to a small account.

Why local works

A city-level tag has a fraction of the competition of a subject tag, and the people browsing it are self-selecting for the one thing you can genuinely offer: being nearby. For venues, services and destination content this is usually the highest-value tag on the post.

Layer place with subject

The place name alone is broad and mostly used by tourists and news. Combining place with subject — the city plus food, plus photography, plus the neighbourhood — narrows it to people looking for exactly what you posted.

Include the neighbourhood or district when it has its own identity. Those tags are small and extremely relevant.

Be accurate

Only use a location tag when the content is genuinely about that place. Tagging a popular city you were not in is the local equivalent of keyword stuffing, and it produces exactly the kind of immediate exit that damages reach.
