How to Organize Social Media Tags
A filing system for tags so you stop rebuilding the same list every week.
The problem with notes apps
Most creators keep hashtags in a notes app, and most of those notes decay: duplicates accumulate, formatting breaks when text moves between devices, and nobody remembers which block belongs to which content type.
The fix is not a bigger note. It is a small number of named sets, each tied to a content pillar, each cleaned before it is saved.
A structure that holds up
Create one collection per content pillar, not per post. Inside each collection, keep the tags in a consistent order: core tags first, then topical, then specific. Keep platform-specific sets separate when the platforms differ enough to matter, which usually means one for short-form video and one for feed posts.
Add a small set of always-on brand tags that appear in every collection so your own content stays findable under a tag you control.
Keeping it clean
Before saving anything, run it through a cleaner and a deduplicator. Before posting, check the count against the platform limit. Every few months, re-read the sets and delete anything you cannot justify — a tag you would not defend out loud is a tag doing no work.
